Beginning this Thursday, August 19, DNR will close Porter Creek Campground and a section of the B-Line Road in the western part of Capitol State Forest due to roadwork. The B-Line road is being repaired near the campground where it washed out during the December 2007 flood.
The closure begins at the intersection of the B-Line, B-0100, and the B-0400 roads. A gate will be installed on the B-Line between this intersection and the campground. A second gate will be installed on the B-Line at the bridge in the campground.
The closure is for safety reasons—to eliminate any potential conflict between the recreating public and heavy machinery. The campground and road closure will continue through the rest of the year, and possibly longer. DNR will need to evaluate the status of the project prior to next camping season.
Porter Creek Campground is a popular area for motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle (ATV), and mountain bike riding as well as picnicking in the day-use area. Motorized trails leading out of Porter Creek are closed seasonally from December 1 through April 30.
