Firefighters on the Monastery Complex Fire focused on mop-up duties today, creating a 50-foot perimeter around more than half the fire’s area. It appears that 105 structures were saved but 108 were lost, including 18 primary residences, 6 possible primary residences, five cabins, 56 outbuildings, a bridge, and 22 unknown structures.

The 4,251-acre fire started Wednesday afternoon and burned in mixed conifers and brush. It remains south and east of Highway 97. Crews from local agencies and DNR responded to the fire.

It is likely that the fire camp — which, at 1,016 people was the third largest settlement in Klickitat County — will demobilize by Wednesday morning, depending on weather conditions and the fire situation.
