Discover Pass transferability legislation passes Senate; now on to the House

discover passToday, the Washington State Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 5977, which makes the Discover Pass  one step closer to being transferable between two vehicles. The next step is for the bill to go to the House for further consideration.

The Senate bill amends last year’s original Discover Pass legislation, which asks visitors to help fund recreation on state lands by paying a user fee. The original law required one pass per vehicle when visiting state recreation lands managed by DNR, Washington State Parks, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).  SB 5977 amends the law to include two lines on the pass for two license plates.

“We’re excited to see this legislation gaining momentum,” said Mark Mauren, DNR Recreation Program Manager. “Legislators, DNR, Parks, and WDFW heard loud and clear from the recreating public that they wanted to be able to use the pass for another vehicle in their household.”

Keep track of SB 5977’s progress.

Both the Senate and House are considering other Discover Pass-related legislation. We are we are following these closely. These are all still works in progress and are being heard in various committees.
