Several popular areas of Ahtanum State Forest in Yakima County are closed through the weekend as DNR fire crews help fight the Diamond Butte Fire.
Closed areas include Ahtanum Meadows, Ahtanum Campground, and Whites Ridge Trailhead. Access to Middle Fork Road is closed except to authorized personnel.
Dispersed recreation is allowed off the Nasty Creek Road, North Fork Road, Jackass Road, and South Fork Road up to the road work at the crossing of South Fork Ahtanum Creek. Campfires are prohibited, explained a DNR news release yesterday (Wednesday, August 23).
