Emergency 911 centers in southwest Washington counties are being flooded with calls this afternoon (Sept . 12) about smoke in the air. For the most part, the smoke being reported today by many citizens is coming from the dozens of wildfires burning in eastern Washington. Weather patterns are pushing the smoke westward and through the Columbia Gorge and other gaps in the Cascade Mountains.
It’s only natural to be concerned about wildfire so DNR asks the public to please call 911 when a rising smoke column is spotted. A general smokey haze does not need to be reported.
