DNR will be hosting an open house for the draft Protection Island Aquatic Reserve Management Plan October 6, 2010. As part of the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), the open house will provide information about the purpose of the plan and collect public input. The meeting will be held at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler St., from 6 to 8 p.m.
The proposed Protection Island Aquatic Reserve is recognized for its unique aquatic landscapes, aquatic vegetation, and diversity of fish and wildlife. The draft management plan was created to identify the natural resources, habitats, and species within the proposed reserve, and the proposed uses, future threats, and management actions that will be carried out by DNR to protect these resources.
The open house will start with two presentations: one about the DNR aquatics program, and the other about species and habitats that are crucial to the Protection Island Aquatic Reserve. Following will be an hour designated for individual “listening posts” for questions and input.
