Thanks to everyone who came to last night’s kickoff open house meeting for recreation planning in the Green Mountain and Tahuya State Forests. Close to 80 people attended and provided their valuable thoughts and ideas to DNR staff about what they like about recreating and what they felt was missing from their recreation experiences in both forests.

Attendees also shared with us their favorite recreation activities in the forests. It was a great turnout of people with diverse recreation interests, including 4×4 riding, motorcycling, hiking, mountain biking, equestrian, camping, geocaching, and more.

Throughout the next 14 months or so, DNR will be working closely with the public and stakeholders to plan for the future of recreation in Green Mountain and Tahuya. We are looking for dedicated citizens to participate in the recreation planning committee, which will meet monthly throughout the process beginning in January.

Find out more about what’s involved in serving on the committee and download an application on our Green Mountain and Tahuya State Forests Recreation Plans web page. This link will also provide updates on the planning process and more information about how you can get involved.
