Restoration of Waterway 18 on Lake Union Complete

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in partnership with Seattle Parks Foundation and Friends of Waterway 18, have restored one of the last natural remaining beaches on Lake Union. The restoration was an effort to preserve the natural shoreline environment of the beach in order to provide better habitat for migrating species, recreational opportunities, and safer public access.

The DNR Aquatic Restoration Program provided $25,000 towards the on-the-ground restoration effort at Waterway 18 which included removal of non-native invasive species and hard armoring rip-rap.

This restoration effort is just one of many current projects statewide that are redeveloping shorelines in order to bring back the natural aquatic environment that has degraded over the years.
